West Beats East In Prospect League All-Star Game

The Springfield Sliders hosted the 2012 Prospect League All-Star Game tonight at Robin Roberts Stadium, and it was the West All-Stars who prevailed, 10-1.  The East All-Stars scored first after a lead-off triple by Butler’s Matt Albaugh and an RBI single by Slippery Rock’s Ryan Abernathy in the third.  From there, it was all West All-Stars.  In the bottom of the third, Hannibal’s Zach Nichols tied the game with a solo home run for the West All-Stars.  Springfield’s own Matt Tellor hit a three run home run in the fourth inning to give the West a lead they would not relinquish.  Both pitching staffs got into a groove until the seventh inning when the West All-Stars’ blew the game wide open.  It all started with three straight walks to start the inning to Danville’s Casey Fletcher, Dubois County’s Cody Daily, and Dubois County’s Dalton Rouleau.  Terre Haute’s Nick Johnson drove in a run with an RBI single, Dubois County’s Kolin Conner then walked with the bases loaded to pick up an RBI, Danville’s Wes Minton then picked up an RBI single, two runs scored on an error, and the sixth and final run came in on an RBI groundout by Fletcher.  The West All-Stars’ bullpen did the rest, including the Sliders’ T R Dunne who threw a scoreless eighth inning.  The other Sliders’ All-Star, Mike Fitzgerald, went 1-2 in the game with a run scored.  Tellor was 1-2 in the game including his home run, and after the game was announced as the game’s MVP.  Prospect League regular season action resumes on Friday, with the Springfield Sliders getting back to work at home against the Quincy Gems at 6:35.  The game will be broadcast on the Springfield Sliders’ Ustream channel.
