Hoots Shutout Catfish, 4-0

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - They say good pitching will beat good hitting. That old baseball adage proved true as O'Fallon Hoots pitchers shut out the Cape Catfish 4-0 Tuesday night at Cape Girardeau's Capaha Park.

O'Fallon starter Ben Plumley, was a red shirt freshman at the University of Illinois last year, gave up just three singles over five innings to earn his first win of the season. Nick Schmidt pitched the next three frames for the Hoots, surrendering just one hit and while walking none. Jack Jones, a right-handed reliever from Drury University, closed out the game, facing four Cape batters, walking one and striking out the other three.

Jordan Zuger, a sophomore at Belmont University, took the loss for the Catfish. He pitched the first 5 2/3 innings, giving up three runs, two of them earned, on five hits including an RBI triple in the first inning to Hoots first baseman Ole Arntson which proved to be the winning run.

The Catfish travel to O'Fallon Wednesday to face the Hoots at Car Shield Stadium. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
