Sebastian Gonzalez named Galen Woods Fireman of the Year
Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp LHP Sebastian Gonzalez wins Prospect League best relief pitcher award!
MAHOMET, Ill. - The Prospect League is proud to announce the 2023 Season Individual Awards. The awards are voted on by the league's 17 field managers and will be announced throughout this week.
The first award to be announced is the Galen Woods Fireman of the Year, given to the league's top reliever each season.
This year's recipient is Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp LHP Sebastian Gonzalez of the University of Hawaii.
Gonzalez appeared in 21 games, earning a 2-2 record and 7 saves for the Pistol Shrimp in 2023. Over 56 and 2/3 innings, Gonzalez allowed 14 earned runs on 50 hits, walking 18 and striking out 86. The left-hander finished the season with a 2.22 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and 13.66 K/9.
Gonzalez finished 2nd in the Prospect League in ERA, 1st in strikeouts, 3rd in WHIP, 1st in K/9, 2nd in saves, 2nd in innings pitched, and 3rd in appearances.
